Pastoral Care ... Fulfilling Our Mission
In keeping with Mercy's commitment to total patient care, hospital chaplains work
as members of the healthcare team for the well-being of the whole person, which
naturally includes spiritual well-being. Chaplains offer vital spiritual and emotional
support, encouragement, comfort, consolation and prayer. The hospital's Pastoral Care
staff offers professionals trained in listening and supporting patients and their
families as they integrate knowledge of their illness with their understanding of
their relationship with God and others. The Pastoral Care staff is also available to
all staff, volunteers and their families.
At Mercy Medical Center, pastoral care services are available
24 hours a day. The St. Mary's Chapel is located south of the cafeteria off the Baggott Street
hallway, and there is also a prayer room available across from the Surgery Waiting Room.
Mass is observed in the Chapel Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6:30 a.m.;
Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., and on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. there is a Word and
Communion service.
You may call the hospital operator at (479) 338-8000, extension 0, during the hours
of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday to speak to a Pastoral Care chaplain for
any related issues or concerns. You may contact a chaplain at the same number for
emergencies and/or crises at any time.
