Offering hope for patients suffering from chronic wounds
Over 6.5
million Americans suffer from chronic wounds. Chronic wounds are often
visible and are considered serious if they do not respond to treatment after thirty days of conventional
medical care. With an aging population, diabetes and obesity epidemics, and
the increasing incidence of chronic disease, the number of people suffering from
hard-to-heal wounds is staggering.
The incidence of chronic wounds is highest among diabetics, which often results
in amputation if not treated with the latest healing techniques.
Chronic wounds can also result from prolonged pressure
on the skin, venous and arterial disease, and non-healing surgical and radiation
damage.
Mercy
Wound Care Center and Hyperbaric Medicine is an out-patient,
hospital-based program that works along with the patient’s primary care
physician. The complexity of chronic wounds requires intervention by multiple
health-care disciplines to address the many conditions and positively impact
healing.
Mercy Wound
Care is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and
operates by appointment. Many health plans cover
Wound Care Center treatments including Medicare, Medicaid and other
commercial insurance plans.
Traci Ivey,
M.D., serves as the Medical Director of the program. Dr. Ivey is
assisted by a team of experienced wound care physicians, including William
Swindell, M.D., Brooke Bisbee, DPM, and Robert Trovillion, DPM. Each
physician coordinates an overall care plan for each patient and works in
partnership with the patient’s referring physician.
Our program
is completely devoted to healing chronic wounds, and helping our patients
reclaim their quality of life.
For most
people, cuts and scratches heal within days or weeks. But for those whose
natural healing process is hampered, a simple sore can become a complex medical
problem requiring specialized care. The professional and caring staff at Mercy
Wound Care Center offer hope to patients who have been immobilized by chronic
wounds for months, and sometimes years.
Mercy
Medical Center partners with Diversified Clinical Services (DCS), the world’s
largest wound care management company with over 300 hospital partners to deliver
excellent evidence-based care to patients with chronic wounds. DCS has been the
leader in wound care for over 20 years, offering the most advanced modalities
such as adjunctive hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
