SC Johnson Pledges $100,000 to Mercy's Capital Campaign

Rogers, AR (November 3, 2006) - Once again, a local supplier has joined Mercy Health System of Northwest Arkansas in the effort to transform healthcare in Northwest Arkansas.

SC Johnson, a family company, has made a $100,000 pledge to Mercy Health System of Northwest Arkansas' capital campaign. With their pledge, the global consumer product company joins the other elite suppliers who have contributed to the capital campaign at the visionary lead donor level.

"On behalf of SC Johnson, we are pleased to be able to support the important work of Mercy Health System," said Randy Jerow, Director of SC Johnson's Wal-Mart sales team based in Bentonville. "It's part of our legacy to make a positive difference in the communities because we are there. Our support of Mercy is one way we can invest in the Northwest Arkansas community and do what's right to help enhance the lives of families in this area.

SC Johnson has long been committed to advancing social progress and public health. The company seeks partnerships that drive positive change, reach consumers who need and value quality products and services, and work to improve quality of life around the world through local community leadership, active volunteerism and charitable giving.

The new Mercy medical campus represents an extraordinary effort to transform the way healthcare institutions function. On one hand, it involves core issues such as patient safety and workplace simplification as well as the application of information technology to fundamental processes such as medication management and supply chain management; on the other, it entails replacing a 50-year old building with a new facility that will enable Mercy to continue its mission.

"We are extremely grateful to SC Johnson for helping us transform the way we provide healthcare," said Susan Barrett, President of Mercy Health System of Northwest Arkansas. "Globally, they have been extremely generous in their philanthropic activities. This pledge reinforces their generosity as well as their commitment as a Family Company making a difference for the families here in Northwest Arkansas as well as countless others in the community."

Pete Metzger, Chairman of the Corporate Supplier Phase for the capital campaign, expressed sincere appreciation to the local SC Johnson Team, which is under the leadership of Randy Jerow. "From the moment Randy heard the vision from Susan Barrett to bring world-class healthcare to Northwest Arkansas, he became an advocate and champion for the mission. His steadfastness, commitment, sense of community and philanthropic spirit are to be applauded."

Patti B, Donor Relations Coordinator for Mercy, further stated "we are so fortunate to have such wonderful suppliers who bring so much to our community and are truly making a difference. It is exciting to see the tremendous generosity of our fellow corporate citizens as the capital campaign continues toward the $40 million goal. We are very grateful to SC Johnson for their gift."

With the SC Johnson gift, the capital campaign has just under $15 million to raise in order to reach the goal of $40 million. The supplier phase is one of seven phases of the capital campaign; fundraising efforts are planned to continue through 2007.

Mercy's 21st century medical campus will be funded by operational gains, investments and reinvestments totaling $105 million as well as money raised through the capital campaign. Slated to open in January 2008, the medical campus will be anchored by a 350,000-square-foot medical center with 200 beds and emergency services and will include care in cardiology, orthopedics, neurology, and outpatient services. A medical office building to accommodate 90 physicians will complete the campus.

Mercy Health System of Northwest Arkansas, a not-for-profit faith-based health system, provides healthcare services to residents in Northwest Arkansas and the surrounding Region. The System includes St. Mary's Hospital, The Gardens at Osage Terrace Assisted Living Facility and Mercy Medical Clinics in 22 locations throughout northwest Arkansas and southwest Missouri.
